Chronic Sufferer needs help

I have been having upper abdominal pain localized on the left side under the breast area in the rib cage area. I have had this pain now for a couple of weeks and a temp to go along with it between 99 and 102. I seen the doctor who ran a UGI and US of my gall bladder and spleen They also did bloodwork but I was so dehydrated I could not give blood. Her nurse said the tests were negative but for what they would not tell me. and the pain persists though my temp will range now from 98 - 99 varying. It does not matter if I eat or not, the pain simply stays but is not as severe as it was the first week. It also does not matter what I eat it still hurts and feels like a dull to sharp pain ranging in intensity often feeling like a cramping sensation accompanied by nausea. I am just wondering what it could be. My insurance greatly limits my treatment options. I do have a history of Ulcers but they never felt like this and my mother has mast cell disease. Can you help?

I just posted about my problem and your pain is exactly what led to my gastroscope this Friday. I have chronic gastritis, but I can not remember too much about it. This could be your problem also. Did they do a gastro on you? I hurt to bad that I'd like to rip my stomach out. Mine is probably related to the surgeries and all the medicine I took. He really did not specify which form I had. Best Wishes. I know how you feel!

Thanks for the reply.. to answer you, no they have not run a gastro on me yet.. only an upper GI and an ultrasound of my gallbladder and spleen. My stomach just feels like a horrible constant cramping pain and it is in that one area I described. I am going back to the doctor this week and maybe she can shed some light on the problem.

My gastro doctor also said for me to call his office and have them schedule a Hida scan. What is this test? I thought that the ultra scan would show if I had gallbladder problems, but was told not always. I had a CT with contrast. Is the Hida scan different? Thanks for all your help. I wish my daughter-in-law were finished with nursing school, but she is only in her third semester. Sometimes I think it would be cheaper for me to go to school and learn alot of this for myself. I just don't know all the questions that I need to ask my gastro doctor.

a hida scan is a cat scan type of test that is used to diagnose gallbladder problems. An ultrasound is a very good test but unfortunately does not always accurately find gallbladder problems. the hida scan is almost used exclusively for diagnosing problems related to gallbladder, etc. It gives a very clear picture of the organs. Prior to the hida scan, doctors will sometimes run a series of blood tests such as a CBC, CMP, Lipase and amalayse tests to monitor whetehr or not you have an infection and whether or not you are having problems with your pancreas (which is often stemming from the gallbladder difficulty)
