Cold meds & Propulsid?

  I am a GERD patient, and am on 40mg of Propulsid daily and Levbid (hyoscyamine 0.125 SL) 2-4 times/day - before meals.  I now have either a very bad cold or sinus infection - and of course it's a weekend and I can't get a hold of any doctors to ask.
  What cold medications are safe to take with my GERD medications? I need something for runny/stuffy nose but I am afraid to take Tylenol Cold, Dimetapp or even Afrin nasal spray because I do not know how it will interract with my current meds.  My sinuses hurt and I feel miserable.  Please reply soon!!

I'm sorry that this response is probably too late. There are a number of drug interactions with cisapride (Propulsid). Antibiotics such as clarithromycin, erythromycin and troleandomycin; anticholinergics such as dicyclomine (Bentyl), and belladona alkaloids; anti-depressants such as nefadozone (Serzone); anti-fungal drugs such as fluconazole, itraconazole and ketoconazole; cimetidine (Tagamet); protease inhibitors such as indinavir and ritonavir and other drugs known to cause prolonged QT interval (abnormal EKG) should not be used. Hyoscyamine (Levbid) should not be used concomitantly with antimuscarinics, amantadine (used to treat viral diseases), haloperidol, phenothiazines, monoamine oxidase inhibitors, tricyclic anti-depressants (these medicines are used in the treatment of depression, psychosis or nausea and vomiting) and some anti-histamines. Antacids may also interfere with absorption of the drug. I hope you find this information helpful.
