Colon Cancer? Symptoms?

Colon Cancer? Symptoms?

The last 1-2 months, I've noticed a loss of appetite and consequently weight loss that others are noticing (not complaining!)  It doesn't take much to fill me up now.  Having been placed on Synthroid in November, I anticipated an increased appetite.  I had a lap chole about 4 years ago and have continue to experience biliary gastritis (dx through biopsy) since. Tagamet is the only med I take for best result with least side effect.  1 - 2 x /week I seem to experience what seems like dumping syndrome.  This has just started about the same time as the loss of appetite.
Given that there is a family hx of colon cancer, are these symptoms to be concerned about, or should I just wait in case it's a bug that needs to run its course?  I should also mention that I have a sympomatic "cyst" on my left kidney 3 cm x 2 cm which was described as a parapelvic cyst causing hydronephrosis (although disputed through IVP). CT scan results haven't been rcv'd yet.
  Thank you for your time!
Dear **,
Colon cancer usually presents with a change in bowel habits, blood in the stool or iron deficiency anemia. Weight loss and abdominal pain are present only in more advanced cases. Your symptoms may be related to the cyst compressing surrounding organs. The CT scan will be able to confirm this. On the other hand, patients with a family history of colorectal cancer in first degree relatives (parents, siblings), especially if the relative had a diagnosis of cancer before the age of 60, are at increased risk for the development of colon cancer compared to the general population. Therefore, it is currently recommended that such patients undergo screening colonoscopy to detect adenomatous polyps. Screening colonoscopy should begin at age 50 or about ten years prior to age that the first degree relative developed colorectal cancer.
