Continuous Pain in Lower Right side

Continuous Pain in Lower Right side

Over one year ago I went through a series of tests including, colonoscopy, endoscopy, x-rays, etc. At that time I was suffering from diarrhea, bloating, cramps, etc.  My original complaint was this same complaint.  Nothing seemed to show up except a kidney stone which I can't even remember (L or R) but I was told not to worry about it.  I was eventually diagnosed with Colitis and treated with medication.  After trying several and various medications, the diarrhea finally cleared up.  Since that time the pain continues. I notice it more when waking in the morning or after sitting for a while.  I also have episodes of racing heart and sweats.  I am 66 yrs old. I realize this could be due to a number of things, but since I have gone over all this with doctors, I don't know when or what to do next.  Can you give me any helpful advice?

It sounds like you have had a pretty comprehensive evaluation.

Pain in the lower right side can include problems with the appendix, inflammatory bowel disease, a hernia, or kidney disease.

A CT scan can be considered to evaluate the appendix.  The colonoscopy and upper endoscopy would do a pretty good job in evaluating for inflammatory bowel disease - but sometimes the terminal ileum can be difficult to visualize.  You can consider a small-bowel series for further imaging.  Biopsies of the affected region can be helpful in pinning down the diagnosis of inflammatory disease.  If this is the case, medications like steroids or sulfasalazine can be considered.

If the workup remains non-revealing, treatment can be optimized for irritable bowel syndrome - likely with increasing the amount of fiber in the diet or with antispasmodic agents.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

I'm a 52 year old women with the same problem. my lower right side hurts all the time,  sometimes it hurts so bad it takes me to my knees. My Dr. thought  it might be related to lower back pain, and sent me for physical theorpy.  That made it worse.I haven't been back to the drs. since because of other  family members health problems.  I'm really looking for some ones advice and help on this.   I'm tired of hurting.  I think it's my kidneys.
