Coumadin and the risks of GI bleeding

Hello there. I am a 26yo female that is on coumadin for a patent formen ovale. My INR last week was 4.3 so I was told to withhold my dose on Weds. and Thurs. and then resume at a lower dose on Fri...which I did. My question is this for the past few days I have been having frequent black, tarry bowel movements with incresaing belly pain. What are the risks of GI bleeding with the use of coumadin? I am due to have my INR taken in the morning and am hoping that it will be back within the 2.0-3.0 range. Even with a therputic dose can coumadin still cause GI bleeding? Thanks for taking the time to review my question.

TELL YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT BLACK STOOLS.

Coumadin is a blood thinner, if you bleed for ANY reason, Coumadin can make that bleeding more severe.
