Cured Meats & Diarrhea ?

For the last year or so I have experienced severe abdominal cramping and extremely loose diarrhea after eating what I believe to be some type of cured meat.
This has happened only once at home after eating some cheap summer sausage. All other instances have been after eating in a restaurant.  Typically the meal would include bacon (even crumbled in small amounts) or recently pork chops and ribs.
Approximately 20-30 minutes after eating I experience the symptoms I described above.  I am very careful in selecting meals that do not contain known culprits, but recently I've had to keep adding to my list.  I am curious as to why this has suddenly happened to me.  I am a 30 year-old female in excellent health, no prior medical problems whatsoever.
I have searched many medical libraries on the Internet and came up empty-handed.  Do you have any suggestions?
  Thanks for you help

Dear Beth,
The symptoms that you describe sound as if they are related to something that you are eating that either causes rapid emptying from the stomach or initiates the release of chemicals that cause gastric muscle contractions.  I am unable to suggest a specific substance as the cause.  My only suggestion is to experiment to determine if eating at home the same types of meat that cause symptoms in a retaurant.  This experiment will allow you to decide if the problem is with the meat or the way that it is prepared in the restaurant
