Discomfort 2 1/2 yeas after gallbladder removal.

I had my gallbladder removed 2 1/2 years ago and at the time I  had  amdominal cramping and diahrrea after almost every meal. This contined for 6 months and my doctor said it was common, but prescribed Donnatal (sp?) anyway. While it's not happening with every meal these days, I'm still experiencing those syptoms (symptoms) at least one time a day - it's interfing with my job. The Donnotal makes me extremely tired. Is it common to continue having these types of problem this long after surgery and is there anything I can do to help keep the episodes to minimum.

hi iris i know exactly what u are talking about 3 years ago they(refering to that ;'*%#@^&* doctors) took out my perfectly good gallbladder. well i started to have diarrhea everyday in the beging 15 to 20 times a day. they told me that was normal sometimes after gallbladder removel (removal) well it did get a little better but still was going after ever meal and in between dr had no answer.figures do the damage can't fix it . went to see another g.i. he told me about cholestyramine resin that helped a little. i started doing my own research and found that this is called post choystectomy diarrhea this is due to since u don't have a storage place for your bile which your live makes it drips contantly all day into your intestines once it reaches your ileum that is the last part of your intestines which recycles the bile to your liver . when their is to much bile in your ileum it flows into your large intestines, this bile in your large intestines triggers diarrhea because the large intestine does not want it there. i have gotten a lot better from experamenting . try 4 grams of cholestyramine with 6 to 8 oz of water before bed then anothewr 4grams one hour before breakfast see how that works for u . try not to e junk food and start taking probiotic to replace the good bacteria in your intestines and also vitamin A,B,ester C, D,and E at diner  . you need a prescription for that . good luck
