I am a 65 year old male.  My eating habits (low carbohydrates, high fat, high protien) have not changed in years and my medications (simvistatin and lisonipril) have not changed either.  My hygiene is regular and thorough.

In the past several months, I have begun to notice an odor emmiting, apparently, from the anal area.  I notice this mostly when I sit on the toilet and the odor is eminating from my underware.  I don't have flatulence, nor do I have leakage.  Sometimes by the end of the day, the odor is noticable, to me, even with my clothes on.

My wife doesn't notice the odor but I'm wondering if this is a component of aging, dietary deficiences, etc.

Having a physician examine the rectal area for a cyst, fistula or abscess can be considered.  Infections there can lead to a persistent, foul odor.

If negative, an endoscopy can be obtained to image the lower GI tract for infections and possible colitis.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
