Does this sound like IBS

Hi,

I'ma 56 year old male who is experiencing all sort of stomach discomfort. I have mild tenderness (tightness) on both sides of my rib cage, most ofetn below the rib cage. A sore stomach, mid and lower and sometimes between the rib cage near the breast bone.

I have had alternating constipation and loose stools, a constant feeling of having to have a bowel movement. All the sympotoms are much worse when sitting down.

I have lots of gas, the sharpest pain comes and goes in my lower abdominal area.

Sometimes it feels like I have a ball in my stomach, I do strain a lot to have a bowel movement.

Two years ago I had a CT with contrast and then again last year I had another ct with contrat both times the results were negative. I have no lost any weigh, actually gained some weight.

I concerned about something other then IBS, I have had this discomfort since late June.

Does this sound like IBS? Should I request another CT scan with contrast scan?

IBS is certainly possible, with the alternating diarrhea and constipation.  

Before attributing the symptoms to IBS, I would pursue more tests to ensure there isn't anything more serious going on.  

This should include an upper and lower endoscopy.  Any type of lower bowel disease, like polyps or masses, can also lead to changing bowel habits.

An upper endoscopy can look at the stomach for ulcers or inflammation, which can lead to the upper abdominal symptoms you are describing.
