Elevated SGPT

I recently had my cholesterol checked for the first time. I'm a 47 yr. old male, a vegetarian for nearly 30 years. Apparently, I eat too much cheese and eggs, since my doctor told me that I have a total cholesterol of 268, an LDL of 154, HDL of 51, and wildly elevated triglicerides (triglycerides) of 315. My main concern, however, is that he said my liver function is elevated (SGPT), but he didn't say what the number is. I have been drinking wine on what I thought was a healthy "moderate" level of 1-2 glasses a day with dinner. I'm scheduled for a retest in about 8 weeks. I plan to cut alchohol drastically and eliminate it completely closer to the retest; cut eggs and cheese to practically nothing. Should I be seriously worried about my numbers? Does it look like I have liver disease?

I forgot to mention that I am not obese; I'm about 5 ft. 6 in. tall and weigh about 160, which is slightly overweight; I've lost about 5 lbs. since I stopped eating cheese sandwiches every day at lunch.

Sounds like fatty liver (steatohepatitis or steatosis).

Many things can cause it.
Alcohol is the most common cause of fatty liver.
Cholesterol (fatty diet) can be another cause.
