Elevated bilirubin levels

Elevated bilirubin levels

My son had bone cancer 8 years ago, and lost his leg from it.  Yesterday I took him to the ER for severe left pain in his side and stomach area.  Diagnosis was blood in urine and that possibility that he was trying to pass a kidney stone; also the ER physician said that he had an elevated bilirubin level.  I was told that this effected the liver; and that because he was an ex-cancer patient, the ER doctor was recommending a CAT scan of the liver to our family doctor.  Does anyone know what an elevated bilirubin level means?

elevated bilirubin levels is how they determine in small children usually infants if a child has liver trouble.  you need to pay extreme attention to what the level is.  my son had elevated bilirubin levels at birth when he had jaundice.  jaundice is a disease of the liver, basically when it is not activing properly.  my son got to 20.8 on his.  21 is beginning stages of brain damage.  ask what his level is exactly, anything over 10 should be monitored by blood test.  take care and god bless.
