Elevated liver enzymes in operating room personnel

Hi, I have had an elevated ALT and GGT sometimes as high as 3X upper limit of normal.  After extensive testing by a liver specialist which was all negative except for liver biopsies which showed progressive scarring, he determined that the elevated enzymes were due to exposure to anesthetic agents

You clearly have had a comprehensive evaluation for the elevated liver enzymes.

I am not aware of specific cases where working in an OR can lead to this finding.  Exposure or inhalation of medications or toxins would be a possibly way this can happen - although it would be rare and I could not find any reported cases.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
