Fibrin Glue for Anal Fistula

Fibrin Glue for Anal Fistula

Posted By Jim on June 10, 1998 at 15:43:16:

I have developed an anal fistula as a result of having an absess (abscess), which was surgically drained.  My physician is recommending the use of fibrin glue rather than surgery.  The glue would be prepared from blood donated by myself.
Questions:
1)  Is fibrin glue an effective method to treat a fistula.
2)  What is the risk of infection or complications from this procedure?
3)  If the procedure doesn't work (I am told there is a 60% success rate), does this complicate future surgery?
I am scheduled for this on June 26th.  Any info before then would be appreciated.
