Gallbaldder Polyps

Gallbaldder Polyps

In May 2008 I had abdominal ulatrasound re urinary retention that revelaed two gallbladder polyps - the largest measured 4.4mm x 5.6mm.  There was no evidence of gallstones or wall thickening.  In july a repeat u/s noted gallbladder "mural based nodules of "up to five mm" that were "favored to be polys".  Then in November a further repeat u/s showed same gallbladder polyps with largest being 6.5mm.

Given that the size of the polyp has appered to go down then up can this be construed as real growth or the possibility of different measurmets by differnt technicians?  is a less tham 1mm change over six months a concern for cancer??????

What is considered to be "worrysome growth"

When do the polps become a concern - at this time I am just being followed by my family doctor????

I am 35 yrs old and female.

thanks

Gallbladder polyps that size can still represent cancer, cholesterol polyps or adenomas.  There is no consensus as to the treatment approach, but one recommendation suggests a repeat ultrasound in 3 months, 6 months, then yearly.

Surgery is indicated if the size increases.
