Gallbladder out...but symptoms not relieved

Gallbladder out...but symptoms not relieved

I had my gallbladder removed over a week ago due to an abnormal hida scan and pain.  The path report said it was diseased.  I, and my doctor, had hoped it would relieve my symptoms which are a burning pressure in the middle of  my chest that bores back to my back--right between my shoulder blades.  It is a fairly constant pain, though it seems to be better in the morning, but progresses to almost unbearable as the day goes on.  I sometimes have an icky feeling in my chest, the only way to explain it is that I feel a nausea in the front of my chest, not in my stomach. Mostly it is just a burning pressure.  Heart is normal, EGD was normal.  Now they want to do a motility test on esophagus--they think I could have spasms.  Has anyone ever had my symptoms?  I am so frustrated.  This whole thing has been going on since August because they were treating me for reflux that I didn't have for 4 months.

I got mine out 4 months ago and my pain has returned also.  Very similar to your pains.  I am going to a gastroenerologist today to check it out.  Initial diagnosis is ulcers or spasms at the location of the surgery.  I have read alot about motility and other related problems...mine does not sound like those.  Check out the internet...loads of good info out there.

You are not alone.  It has been almost a year since my gallbladder was removed, and the pain is worse now than it ever was.  My gastro supsects spasms. My pain is like yours, pain in middle of chest that bores right through to my back.  Am ok when I get up, but pain worsens as the day goes on.  I have pain where my gallbladder was and lots of nausea too.  There seems to be no end in sight.  Don't give up.  I know it is hard and it really gets me down sometimes, but just know that you are not alone and that we are here to support each other.  Good luck...

I too, have had my gallbadder removed....10 years ago!  I was still having severe pains in my chest, so bad that I could hardly breathe.  I went to several doctors, which then gave me several different diagnoses (from food poisining, ulcers, hiatal hernias, etc).  Well, the pain got so bad a few weeks ago, my husband has to rush me into the emergency room, and was immediately admitted.  My liver numbers, they said, was "off the charts".  They told me that even when you get your gallbladder out, your body can still produce stones, or that a stone was passed into my body even before I had it removed and has been bouncing around in me causing these pains for all these years.  Both of these could be your answer to your pains (not mine though!)  None of that CT scans or ultra sounds showed any stones, so they has to do a procedure called ERCP.  In my particular case, it was my bile duct opening (sphincter) spasming due to some scar tissue, then causing my pain.  I spent a week and a half in the hospital, just got out two days ago.  I have a 90% chance of not having these pains again.  You may want to ask for an ERCP, it really is a very simple procedure!  I hope this helps, so far its helped me, knock on wood!
