Gallstone Flushing In Lieu of Surgery/ Different Types of B.M./Calcium

I recently was diagnosed, after 3 acute and painful attacks, as having three tiny stones.  My doctor and I discussed trying to manage them by diet and he suggested olive oil.  I did some research and did find that the two natural ways to flush seemed to be a chinese herb (which I will not take right now) and olive oil/fresh lemon juice were frequent recommendations.  I have resumed my flaxseed oil supplementation as well and a gelcap of Evening Primrose Oil daily.  I am curious about successful flushing and also, if I will be aware of it if and when I manage to flush them out.  My bowel movements have been sporatic, a little on the loose side but most times formed and sometime unusually thin.  I was wondering if there are things one can identify by color and shape of bowel movements.  Can I tell if I am expelling bile?   Also, I am hypo-thyroid and take calcium supplements, as prescribed by my endocrinologist.  Since the stones are made of cholestoral and calcium, could these supplements be hurting me or should I just continue?  Any input is appreciated.  At least I now know what was going on during the attacks!  It was pretty scary. Thanks.

Dear Holly,
The medical literature published a number of  articles, approximately 15 years ago, that showed that a small number of gall stones could be disolved.  The stone should be small and not calcified.  the major problem with disolution therapy is that the stones will recur.  Additionally, if you reduce the size of the stone, it may leave the gall bladder and pass down the bile duct causing pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas- a cause of severe abdominal pain).
