Gastritis/Tachycardia?

My husband, 40 years old, gets tachycardia only when swallowing.  He has also had some stomach discomfort.  EKG revealed 190 bpm when swallowing solid food.  This lasts for a matter of seconds, then he returns to normal sinus rhythm.  This all started about 4 weeks ago.  Endoscopy revealed acute gastritis and stricture of the distal portion of the esophogus.  1)  How could his tachycardia be related to the gastritis? 2) He was a big fan of eating sushi, could he have a parasite or bacterial infection?  He is currently taking Protonix, and has had some relief of the tachycardia, but it has not subsided completely.  We are currently waiting for the biopsy results. He has always been in excellent health.  He is not eating as much as he used to, and has dropped 10 pounds.  Thanks.  Lisa

I lost over 20 lbs : not needed and after a year of tests and trials, Have had trouble with an increase in pvc's in so much as I will see my cardiologist next week. Scary when your light headed and pain from so much work going on with your heart. I have a huge increase when I eat. Does the heart and stomach work together , Hope to learn more to cause and then treat not cover up.  thanks

I've never heard of gastritis causing a "Rapid" heart beat. However, if your husband is having a lot of "Silent" anxiety that is being brought on by the pain of that acute gastritis, than perhaps that's why the heart is racing. Your husband truly needs to take care of that gastritis and the protonix, although he might not feel it completely, will do the trick, but he MUST staick with it and has to stick with the gastritis diet. Try going to google.com and searching gastritis. You will see, it's nothing to mess around with. No smoking, NO drinking, coffee, tea, spicy or fried foods. Also, GERD will cause the heart to race. Just a comment:

I have ventricular tachycardia and when I eat a lot my heart rate does go up.  I believe it's caused by pressure from a full stomach up onto the heart.

A long time ago I saw an Internal Medicine doctor about chest pain and rapid heart rate.  He found I had a stricture and a sore on the esophogus.  He told me that the problem with my esophogus could cause rapid heart rate and/or palpitations.
