General discomfort.

General discomfort.

I have had some general discomfort in my lower abdomen. No "pain", just regular discomfort, almost like a "churning". I am a 39-year-old, non-smoking, non-drinking male.  I have no other symptoms - no blood in stool, fever, etc.  This occurs with some regularity.
also, what are warning signs of colon cancer?
  Thanks for your help.
________
Dear Chip,
The symptoms of colon cancer can be very insidious.  Blood in the stool ( either detected by guaiac testing or visible to the eye) is a common presenting symptom.  Change in bowel pattern i.e. constipation or decreased caliber of stool is a frequent symptom.  Abdominal pain
can be a symptom of colon cancer, but most people with your type of abdominal pain do not have colon cancer as the cause of the pain.
If there is a family history of colon polyps or cancer your probability of developing cancer is increased.
If you are concerned, contact your physician and ask about having a flexible sigmoidoscopy and stool guaiac tests.  %this is the recommended protocol to screen patients at normal risk,
