Hemorrhoids?

Hemorrhoids?

I'm not sure whether i have hemorrhoids or not and am looking for some help. I am a 29 year old, otherwise healhty male.  For the past few weeks i have had a persistent anal itch, the intensity of witch varies from not at all to briefly intense (had something similar about a year ago and it went away with the use of witch hazel and hydrocortisone suppositories from my Dr).

Decided to take a look at my anus tonight to see if i could see any obvious irritation - looked normal to me.  Though I did notice that when i beared down for a prolong period and "manhandled" the area as it were - some blueish/purlished swelling developed.  it quickly subsided but i have never noticed that before - but im not usually looking and bearing down.

I am wondering if this could be hemorrhoids and could explain my persistent itch in the area. Im not bleeding, i am in no pain, i notice no blood on my stool, its not a hard bump - nothing like that.

Thoughts?  If hemorrhoids - can they go away on their own or is this a chronic problem that i have to deal with forever?

Hemorrhoids is a possibility, and can be evaluated during a physical exam with your doctor as well as during an anoscopy or flexible sigmoidoscopy.  If hemorrhoids is the culprit, I agree with the hydrocortisone cream, as well as stool softeners to prevent irritation.

If negative, and the itch continues, you can consider a parasitic infection, which can also lead to constant itching.  If this is suspected, sending the stool off for culture and analysis can be considered as well.
