Hep C treatment

My husband has probably had hepatitis C since the late 1970's. He has never shown any symptoms of the disease and is not sure where he contracted the virus.  He was officially diagnosed in 1991.  He had a biopsy in 1992 that was between 2-3 on the HAI rating.  His LFT's have always been just slightly elevated.  He started treatment with Infergen in Mar. of this year.  His RNA level was 5.8 million at the beginning of treatment.  He started with 9mg three times per week. His enzymes didn't change and his RNA level changed very little.  His hepatologist increased his dosage to 15 mg every other day in June.  His last RNA level was 700,000 (after approx. 6 months of treatment).  LFT's are still mildly elevated. His doctor is thinking about trying the Infergen on a daily basis.  My husbands RBC's and WBC's are starting to go down but not to a dangerous level at this point.
  My questions are:
  Is he considered a non-responder?
Is Infergen considered better than regular interferon?
Should he try the combo therapy?
  Thank you.
