Hepatitis B Vaccine Side Effects

I have a family member whose child of 2 years and 4 months of age was given the Hepatitis B Vaccine on 12/12/97, and received his 2nd dose on 1/7/98.  The child developed pain in his legs, and then in his groin, and was no longer able to walk.  He was hospitalized on January 9, 98 (with symptoms of paralysis - Spinal Cord Infection)
Are there some information available about HEPB vaccine and its side effects, and could you help us in providing them some information relating to this incident, and whether this symptom could at all be related to the vaccine (it is awfully suspicious though).
