High GGT and ALP

Posted By Dee on October 16, 1998 at 05:09:57:

Dear Doctor,
I was experiencing extreme fatigue and low grade fever. Doctor diagnosed upper respiratory infection and prescribed ethyromicin. Blood tests were also done-results showed ALP at 123 (normal range 20-115), AST at 450 (normal range 0-45) GGT at 382 (normal range 2-45) and ALT at 314 (normal range 0-50. Hepatitis A, B,C, negative, and Bilirubin normal. He then discontinued the antibiotic, and changed my blood pressure medicine from Accupril to Dynacirc. On retesting a week later the ALP was 191, AST was 40, GGT was 738, and ALT was 227. He said that the higher levels shown on GGT and ALP probably had peaked (since the other levels came down) and would come down shortly. He felt that the Accupril was the cause of the high levels. I have been experiencing pain on the right side of my back and a chest pain on my left side that is worse when I lie down. An ultrasound is scheduled next week. Do these levels peak like that-is this a correct assumption that levels will normalize now that Accupril has been discontinued?
I appreciate any input you may have.
Thank you.
Dee
