High Level of alanine transferose enzymes

My son has been diagnosed with a high level of alanine transferose enzymes in his liver and is not able to donate blood anymore.  What exactly does that mean and what is the prognosis? Is it something we should be more concerned about at this point?

He may want to get tested for Hepatitis, just to put his mind at ease.
He could have a simple blood test done ("liver panel" or "liver function tests"), to see if there's anything going on that he should know about.

Hope this helps.
