High amylase, high triglycerides

my 30 year old sister, non-drinker, on birth control pills,  has been having epigastric pain for a couple of weeks, Blood work shows, elevated amylase levels (not elevated lipase), high triglycerides (rest of the cholesterol tests are normal).  Her CT scan shows no problems to the pancreas but some fat infiltration to the liver.  The doctors are not sure exactly why she is presenting this way.

Pancreatitis is the leading possibility, as it can present with an elevated amylase and markedly high triglycerides.

Further imaging should be done, specifically on the biliary ducts, to exclude a blockage.  An MRCP can be considered.  

If pancreatitis is suspected by the physician, you can discuss whether bowel rest is an option.

If the tests are negative, other causes of dyspepsia can be considered - this can include an upper endoscopy or upper GI series to exclude GERD or an ulcer.

These options can be discussed with your sister's physician, or in consultation with a GI consultant.

How serious is pancreatitis.  The CT scan and sonogram said that they did not notice any problems in the pancreas.  Is this problem fixable.  Also is the birth control pills possible a reason for this.  I am trying to figure out how to prevent this in her as She is not an alcoholic drinker either.
