History of stomach polyps

Hello Doc.

I am a 39 year old male and have been seeing a GI for the last three years for reocurring stomach polyps. My GI says that my case is very unusal because I have so many polyps. Every six months I go in an get scoped and my GI removes about 20 -30 polyps ( fundic type). Until now we have only been controlling the problem with no ideas to what is the root cause. I have had all the blood work done and it all come back normal. I always test negative for H-plorite ( spelling?). In Dec 2007 we also tested for gastrin level and that came back normal. My GI now is referring me to another specialist. Do you have an ideas what could be the root cause of my polyps?

Best Regards

Kent

I agree with the management thus far.  The cause of gastric polyps is incompletely understood.  Chronic inflammation or mucosal irritation may contribute to the cause.

Depending on the pathology of the polyps, followup can range from yearly endoscopic surveillance to every 3 years.

Obtaining another opinion at a major academic medical center is a reasonable approach.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
