Increased cramps when sitting

Increased cramps when sitting

Hi,
I have both IBS and prostitis. Right now both are acting up. I have stomach cramps, sore lower back and the constant urge to have a bowel movement.

The odd thing is both the back pain and stomach cramps are greatly reduced when I stand up. When I sit down the pain is again much worse.

My stomach pain is mostly lower center to left side. Sometimes lower back pain goes down in my groin area.

I cane hear my stomach girgling alot. I do have some gas, but mostly cramps.

Does all this sound like IBS and or Prostate problems?

Thank you

The pain that you describe - lower left side and constant urge to have a bowel movement, suggests a lower GI problem, rather than an upper GI one (i.e. the stomach).  I would suggest a colonoscopy for further evaluation and to rule out things like inflammatory bowel disease, polyps or cancer.

If there is suspicion about the stomach, an upper endoscopy would be the test of choice.  Other tests to consider would be an abdominal ultrasound and 24-hr pH study.

A digital rectal exam as well as a transrectal ultrasound to evaluate the prostate can be considered to further evaluate the prostate, which certainly can cause the continual groin and lower back pain.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
