Is ultrasound needed for HBV inactive carrier

I am a 26 Asian male with hepatitis B infection. My viral DNA is undetectable, I have normal liver functions (ALT and AST) as well, and my Protein, Total is within range. I would like to know if ultrasound is needed in my case. I am worried about liver cancer but my doctor said I do not need an ultrasound as my viral count is undetectable and i am consider an inactive carrier. Also, I was advise not to have alcohol but I would like to know if an occasional drink would hurt me. Thank you for your time.

I would agree with your physician's opinion.

The likelihood of cancer, given an undetectable hepatitis B DNA level and normal liver function tests, is very low.

An ultrasound would not likely add to the findings you already mentioned.

However, if any of these values change, re-considering the ultrasound should be considered.

Thank you Dr. Pho. How about an occasional drink here and there?
