Large Hiatal hernia w/GERD and gastric mucosal prolapse

I had an endoscopy done yesterday and the above was my diagnosis. My GI doc is going on vacation and I don't have an appt for another two weeks. I am trying to understand about the Gastric Mucosal Prolapse and if either of these conditions is a life threatening issue. The doctor said this was causing the pain in my back and chest. I currently take Prevacid and when a previous barium swallow was done, I was told my stomach empties slowly. Should I consider meds to make my stomach empty more quickly. Thank you

A hiatal hernia can lead to the stomach that prolapses into the esophageal lumen (i.e. gastric mucosal prolpase).  These conditions should not be life threatening.  Typically, treatment involves anti-acid medications.  More severe or refractory cases may require surgery.  

As for delayed gastric emptying, various medications can be considered first.  This can inclide pro-kinetics such as the antibiotic erythromycin or Reglan.  A gastric emptying scan should be considered to quantify the amount of gastroparesis.

These options can be discussed with your gastroenterologist.

I've had some strange symptoms of late.  I have no history of any gastro-intestinal problems, but lately when I eat soup, and  only when I eat soup, I get severe pressure-like pain right at the bottom of my ribcage, lasting about a half hour and coming in waves.  This has happened 4 or 5 times in the last couple of weeks, but only when I've eaten soup.  Haven't felt it with any other foods.  Anyone know what this might be?
