Liver Cell Adenoma / Hepatocellular Adenoma / Liver Tumors

I have recently found out that I have to have a liver cell adenoma surgially removed.  I would like to chat (email ***@****) with individuals who have this condition for support.  There seems to be some mixed feedback as to whether or not the tumor should be removed, etc..

I have a liver hemangioma which I'm told is probably not malignant and should be left alone.  The surgeon I saw recently said he does not remove benign neoplasms of the liver because it is very risky.  Have you had a biopsy?  What other symptoms do you have?

I had a 9cm hemangioma on my liver removed in Feb. 02.  I have completely recovered and am symptom free.  I would be happy to discuss entire diagnosis/surgical process if interested.  E-mail me at ***@**** if you would like more info.

Hi, I have a liver cell adenoma and a hemangioma (sp?), the adenoma is 8.5 cm and the hemangioma is 4 cm, so far they are only removing the adenoma because of chances for emergency bleeding and/or turning malignant.

I would like to know more about your surgery though because I am sure they are going to be similar.  What made the doctor operate on the hemangioma?  Was this most likely due to birth control?  Are your liver enzymes elevated?

I'm surprised to hear you had an hemangioma removed surgically.  I'm told they are benign and harmless and should be left alone.  I'm wondering if you had serious symptoms?  Did you have a biopsy first? and what other tests?  Any info you can provide...much appreciated.

Hi. I had a FNH which is a focal nodular hyperplasia removed which is simalar to a liver cell adenoma in April of 2001.  I had half of my liver removed and a 10cm tumor taken out.  There is still one left that could not be removed.  I also had to have my gallbladder removed in order to get at the liver. I took two years to find out what was wrong.  I had pain in the upper right side, underneath the rib area.  The pain then spread to the upper right area of the back and shoulder.  Weight loss became a problem and i had a lot of regurgation while trying to eat.  The doctors here could not do the surgery so we found a doctor in Montreal.  He was secure with doing the removal.  Everything went well .  Istill have some pain but it is not as bad as it was.  If I can be of any help to you please feel free to email me ***@****.

To answer your question, surgery was necessary because I was symptomatic.  I had on-going problems with my stomach over the years, i.e., indigestion (thinking it was possibly an ulcer).  In November of 2001 my symptoms became severe, nausea, bloating, unable to eat large meals, taking lots of maalox. I ended up in the emergency room with an air pocket in my upper intestine and further testing revealed my hemang.

My hemangioma was located on my left lobe.  They removed 25 percent of my liver and also my gall bladder.  What was happening is when I ate and my stomach expanded it came in contact with the heman.  They were basically competing for space.  Initially surgery was not immediately necessary.  However, after a consult with another surgeon, the medical opinion was that it should come out.  My decision for surgery came after much research, reading, etc.  It took a lot of thinking and reading and interviewing doctors and having tests before I was 100% comfortable with my decision.  Now that I've had the surgery, I am 100% symptom free. I am lucky, my surgery was a complete success.  I was told that my stomach was distended due to the heman. pushing on it for so long.  They think it was there 10 plus years and possibly I was born with it.  If anyone would like more details i.e., my surgical experience, please e-mail me at MetroReporting @aol.com  I'd be happy to help you out.

The most important thing you can do is be sure of your diagnosis, assemble a good surgical team and have a positive attitude.  Hope this helps!
