Liver Function Test Results - Need help with interpretation

Posted By Tom on October 20, 1998 at 22:03:54:

I had blood work done recently and my doctor voiced concern over two elevated liver enzymes (Total Bilirubin and ALT (SGPT).  My ALT reading was 41 and Total Bilirubin was 1.2.  I have done some research on the Internet and found normal levels conflicting with his report (ALT 0-40 vs. 6-59 U/L and Total Bilirubin 0.1-1.0 to 0.3-1.9 mg/dl).  Are my numbers truly a concern?  What levels are considered normal?  Finally, do these two enzymes reflect a certain disorder (or future disorder)?  I drink 2-3 beers several times a week, 30 years old, and in good health.
