: Hello I recently posted a message regarding a possible connection between
the liver and heart.  I have been experiencing atrial arrhythmias on and off
again over the past 5 years.  I also discovered that my liver is fatty and
my billirubin count is higher that normal.  I am searching for a possible
connection.  I have always wondered about an infection either viral or bacterial
that could be causing this problem.  I am 36 years old and in otherwise
excellent health.  I take students on many wilderness canoe trips in the local
area so naturally Lyme's disease is on my mind.  Echocardiograms have never
showed any inflamation (inflammation) but I understand that such an infection my elude such
a finding.  How could I rule out the possibility of any infection being responsible
for my condition?  Are there sensitive tests that rule out this possibility?
One of the homeopathic clinics I contacted in Reno suggested that it was quite
likely that a virus was responsible.  They indicated that it would never be
discovered by routine blood tests and that it must be specifically targeted
for discovery.  I would appreciate any thoughts you may have.  Thankyou Peter.

Dear Peter,
I have reviewed your correspondence with our other physicians in the Forum and looked for reports in the medical literature that sound like your case.  I am unable to find any evidence that Lyme disease could be the cause of your symptoms.
