Nausea lasting for 4 years

Nausea lasting for 4 years

My mother has suffered with Nausea for 4 years now. At first the nausea was intermittent and she would have periods when she did not feel sick. This has gradually got worse over time and has included vomiting on occasions which has consisted of green bile. The vomiting has decreased but she is left with feeling nauseous every day particularly in the morning and after bowel movements. When she eats this can help the sickness but she feels bloated as if she is not digesting the food and suffers with wind.

She has had the following tests/checks

Endoscopy    This was performed 3 years ago
Barium meal
X ray on the bowel
Blood tests
Colonoscopy
Gall bladder

The X ray on the bowel showed impactation and she was advised to take Normacol and Movical everyday to remove this. The Colonscopy was clear and the impactation has gone. She was told she has a 'sluggish/idle' bowel and was advised to keep taking the movicol.
This has not helped and she is still suffering from nausea everyday and occasional vomiting. The situation is getting desperate! Is their anything else she can do which will ease the sickness or any other tests that could help.

Thanks

Nessa

Other tests to consider would include a gastric emptying scan.  This test would evaluate for gastroparesis (delayed gastric emptying) and can be the cause of chronic nausea.

Another test to consider would be a 24-hr pH scan with an esophageal motility study.  This is the comprehensive test for GERD as well as esophageal motility disorders.

These two tests can be discussed with a gastroenterologist.

If all these tests are negative, you may want to consider looking outside of the GI system for a cause.  A neurology referral can be considered, since many neurological diseases can result in chronic nausea.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

I was just going to say have you thought of menieres disease?  Sorry about the spelling - it is that ear disorder.  My Great Aunt had it and it made her feel dizzy and sick.  A long shot but thought I would mention it.

Hey,
I can not afford $16 to post a question, so i have to write here.
I have felt sick for the last 8 years. Since i was in grade 3. I am now in year 11.

I feel sick always in the morning, which sometimes is unberable. This usually doesnt last through to the afternoon, but recently it has.

I have tried doctors but they never know what is wrong with me?

I know there is something wrong, but what? Sometimes i wish they operate on me, and go inside my body to figure it out...

Thanx

Hi,

I just responded to someone else's post a few above or below your post.  I went into more detail.  However, bottom line is that I have severe vomiting, nausea for six months from Dec 03' until this month.  They did an upper GI which revealed an ulcer.  However the doctor stated that the ulcer would not have caused all of the vomiting.  Finally they did an upper endoscopy and found that my pylorus was completely closed.  They did a balloon and opened it, stretched it, whatever.  I was sore for two weeks and now I am fine.  The vomiting has completely stopped and I am in no pain.  Hope this helps.

I feel sick everytime I have to eat.  I get hungry, but once I think of food I get sick.  I don't vomit, but the feeling of nausea is there.  I've lost A LOT of weight and it am very worried about losing more.  My GI doctor found out that my stomach motility is quite slow, so she perscribed me Reglan.  That medication made me drowsy and irritable, so I stopped taking it.  It didn't even help by the way.  I don't know what else to do. :(
