Nexium and Menstrual Cycle

Hi,

Im hoping to talk to a doctor about nexium. Im here on behalf of my girlfriend who recently started to take nexium for her stomach pains. She has been very hot at random times and has been nauseas at night. Her period was suppose to start yesterday but it has not yet and we are not sure as to why it has not. She had one episode of cramps this morning but it was very short and ended soon after. I was reading "Lilalee" 's post and what she said about her problem with nexium and her symptoms are very similar to my girlfriends. I am open for any suggestions. We were thinking of not taking nexium for the next couple of days and see if her period starts like Lilalee's did but we are not sure.

I am not aware of Nexium and other PPIs affecting the menstrual cycle.  That being said, that doesn't mean it can't happen.

I would discuss this possibility with your girlfriend's GYN to see if similar case reports have been made.

Otherwise, further tests can be done to exclude other causes of stomach pain and nausea.  This can include imaging the liver and gallbladder, as well as evaluating the upper digestive tract for inflammation or an ulcer.
