Oesophageal Myotomy

Oesophageal Myotomy

I have surgery planned for next week because all treatments over the last two years have been unsuccesful in dealinh with my diffuse oesophageal spasm which commenced after laproscopic fundoplication for GORD.
I am having laproscopic mobilisation of oesophagus and long oesophgeal myomoty.
Do you think that this operation will cure the symptoms of diffuse oesophageal spasm which has ruined the last two years of my life.

dear Graham,
Laparoscopic fundoplication is a new surgical procedure. Recent evidence would suggest that many patients with primary esophageal spasm improve after myotomy.  The efficacy in those who have had prior esophageal surgery is not known.
