Oily stool???

Oily stool???

I have recently had a few episodes of an orange, oily substance that occurs during a bm- usually pain in the abdomen before. I have already been diagnosed with Irritable Bowle syndrome a few years ago, but have never had this happen. I can't seem to find any thing related to this symptom except from taking diet pills- which I don't. Anyone ever had this?

Orange juice on an empty stomach can do this.

Thank you, but I usually don't drink orange juice. Any other suggestions?

Oily stools may be the sign of malabsorbtion.  You might want to bring this to the attention of your doctor.  It might be nothing but since he has diagnosed you with IBS it would be a safe thing to contact him.  Best of luck to you.

Do you take any of the vitamins that are encapsulated in gel?  Like vitamin E ?  Sometimes those things are oily.  I used to take some garlic supplements and they were oily.  And I have been using some Opti-fresh breath gels that I got from the Health Food store.  The ingredients labels lists all types of oil: peppermint oil and parsley seed oil.  Just a thought.

Hi Beck, I just had the same thing happen to me and did a google seach for "oily stool" and got your thread.  Very strange!  I couldn't imagine what to think.  The only think I can think of is that I am taking a fish oil supplement in the form of two large gel caps each day (MAX EPA, supposed to be the "good oil" and good for the heart etc.).  I can't imagine why this would simply pass through, but that may be exactly what happened to me (frankly I hope that's all).  I have no other diagnosis or problem that I am aware of.
