On more follow up..

Thanks for your fast responses the last two days.  My stools have returned to normal size and consistency today.  To what do I contribute the one spell of narrow stools?

Daily variation in stool shape can be attributed to dietary changes.  I would also consider irritable bowel syndrome.

If there is a persistant change in stool caliber, I would consider a colonoscopy or flexible sigmoidoscopy.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
