Pancreatic Cancer concern

Pancreatic Cancer concern

I've been having a mild ache in my upper abdomen that also includes floating stools for as long as I can remember.

My doc says floating stools are nothing to be concerned about.
He also says that pancreatic cancer is not a concern because I have normal lipase, amylase and liver function tests. I've also had a chest x-ray in the last month.

Are the above lab results a pretty good sign that I may have some other GI issue and that pancreatic cancer is less of a concern?

thanks.

Indeed, a normal amylase and lipase level would make pancreatic disease less likely.  If pancreatic cancer is a concern, imaging can be done with a CT scan, MRI or endoscopic ultrasound.

Floating stools can be indicative of malabsorption.  Sending the stool off for analysis can be done, and blood tests also be done to exclude celiac disease.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

I forgot to add that I am a 37 yr old male and have taken Nexium for years. I also had an normal endoscopy exam for reflux about a year ago.

My abdominal ultrasound was normal.  My GP doc doesn't want to proceed with anything else and claims I have IBS.

In my experience of using this forum, Dr. Pho only answers the initial post, and not follow up queries. You need to post again, (and pay the fee) for supplemental questions. You might try posting on the community forum on this site, as someone may be able to answer your queries.
