Possible Amyloidosys

Possible Amyloidosys

I have had Idiopathic Peripheral Sensory Neuropathy since 1998 for lack of a better diagnosis. This affects my feet, thighs, hands, face, lower lip, tongue and back. Symtoms (symptoms) are numbness, electric shock, and lack of temperature sensation. My Neurologist has performed EMGs, MRIs and blood tests all negative. At a loss for a cause, he performed sitting/standing blood pressure/heart rate tests and determined that their could be autonomic nervous system envolvement. This lead him to think of Amyloydosis since both sensory nerve problems and autonomic envolvment seemed to be present. He sent me to another Neurologist to discuss the possibility. He repeated an EMG and blood pressure tests and mentioned he doubts any Amyloidosis since his findings of autonomic envolvement were not significant in his opinion.  Since then, I have developed GI problems with Acid Reflux and now intestional motility problems resulting in diahrea with occult blood presence. A colonoscopy revealed no lesions, polyps or cancer - color was good. I had a biopsy taken for amyloid testing - results not back. Could this be very early symptoms of Amyloidosys.  I wonder if further analysis of this possibility is warranted because the earlier that this is discovered, the better the chance of longer survival.

Surguries

1995 - Left knee arthroscopy - medial meniscus tear - major inflamitory response
1997 - Left knee arthroscopy - additional tear - major inflamitory response
1998 - Left knee arthroscopy - another tear - again major inflamitory response - had to resort to pain management
2000 - Right knee arthroscopy - medial meniscus tear - moderate inflamitory repsonse

First 3 scopes and inflamation (inflammation) was kept at bay by large doeses of ibuprophen 3200mg daily for several months each time.  Last scope was much less inflamatory.
