Post Partial Gastrectomy

My aunt who is in her 70's and recently had a 90% gastrectomy.  She has experienced weight loss, dumping and many of the other after effects.  My concern is primarily that she also seems to have entered a deep state of depression.  She had literally lost the will to live because she must eat 6-7 times a day, can't eat what she wants, experiences dumping and has lost weight.  While recognizing the significance of the physical aspects of the procedure, I am greatly concerned about her mental state. Do you have any advice in this area.  Her current physician seems indifferent.

Dear Sandy,
Pharmacologic therapies and lifestyle modifications can control the dumping and other symptoms.  The depression is normalafter a major surgery.  If you are concerned about the persistence of severity of the depression, then consultation with a mental health specialist may be beneficial.  Pharmacologic therapy may be necessary.
