Post viral gastroparesis in children

My 2 year old daughter has been in the hospital for 2 weeks and has been diagnosed with post viral gastroparesis after a gastric emptying study showed marked retention of gastric contents.  She has had intermittent vomiting for about a month which I had passed off as "stomach flu" picked up at day care....the most recent episode of vomiting was intractable and landed us in the emergency room.  She is on tube feedings via NG tube to the small bowel and tolerating them well at 40cc per hour.  She is receiving Erythromycin and Zantac via NG tube; however, her vomiting episodes continue to occur and always at night.  Her emesis appears to be "normal stomach liquids" and less acidic than previously, probably due to the Zantac.  She is receiving nothing by mouth, not even ice.  What is the typical healing period for this type of gastroparesis?  Are the tube feedings and meds the treatment of choice or should my husband and I be looking for other answers?

hello mt name is michelle. when i was in sixth and seventh grade i hade post virul gastroparesis. i was in and out of the hopstal for months. in sixth grade a spent a week in the hospital before they knew what was going on. i had sever IVs and the eventually put a picline in. i was able to eat but about a minute or two later i would throw up. after a month or so i had a test done where they stuck a tube up my nose, down my throat, and into my sthomac so test weather i have post virul gastroparesis or not. it turned out that i did.they had figured out that everything had been cause by a simple case on mono, that had paralized my sthomac. about a month later they put a feeding tube in my sthomac. this was very painfull and i couldn't eat for a week. but when i first started eating again after the feeding tube was put in i could eat anything and it would stay down. it was a miracle. the tube was takin put a few weeks later. i stayed healthy for about six months but again i had post virul gastroparesis. this was very devistating on my part. i went throught the whole process again. but once again after the feedin tube was put in i suddenly became better again. its been about 2 years now and im doin fine. im a healthy 13 year old. gettin post virul gastroparesis once is very rare but to get it again is proubable 1 in a billion. dont ever get ur hopes. i am a walking miracle thanks to my great doctors. ur daughter is going to be fine,
thanks for listening to my story. hope everything turns out for the best.
