Problems belching, feels like this causes my heart to beat irregularity.

  Nearly every time I eat, I get air in my stomach and shortly after, my heart beats irregular.  If I can make myself belch by pressing on my upper abdomen it eventually goes away.  I have always had trouble belching but the feeling of my heart beating abnormal scares me.  This has been going on for nearly 1 1/2 yrs.  It's not that I imagine my heart beating this way, I can put my hand on my chest or neck and feel it skip beats or flutter around.  Any response to this would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you very much.  Angela

The vagus nerve innervates both the stomach and the heart.  Excessive distention of the gastrointestinal tract can slow the heart rate by a process that involves the vagus nerve.  Other respondents to this Forum describe an irregular heart rate resulting from esophageal reflux.  In all cases it is necessary to exclude cardiac disease before attributing a cardiac arrythmia to a gastrointestinal problem.
