Question

I recently had a CT scan and was told there is a thickening of the wall of the distal sigmoid colon, with adjacent inflammatory changes, fat stranding, and fascial thickening. The findings suggested acute diverticulitis but said that malignancy could not be entirely excluded. I am 45 years old. What do you think the percentages could be for colon cancer? Please answer soon.

I cannot give odds for cancer without personal examination.

However, this almost certainly necessitates a colonoscopy.  That is the best test to exclude cancer, and should be scheduled expediently.

This should be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
