I have had frequent abdominal pain over the past 10 years.  The stomach pain generally follows eating fatty foods, red meat, etc... I've have had numerous tests Upper GI, Lower GI everything checks OK.  Sometimes a combination of stress and the above foods can cause sever abdominal pain.  I'm not depressed, generally an "up" person, in relatively good health.  Stress management has been suggested, but I believe there is more to the problem then this.  If I have a bad attack the only solution I have found is don't eat for several days.  I've tried some dietary suppliments (Ginger) and though helpful it not a solution.  When a problem occurs, I have a persistant throbbing in either the upper part of my stomach or small intestine.  The first pains are usually 1 1/2 to 2 hours after eating.  Any ideas?
Been there!  Seems better to go without food than suffer the unpleasant side
effects of eating!  Have been treated for gastritis and acid reflux.  Had the upper
and lower GIs done, and gall bladder x-ray. After asking giving a very detailed
background about my problem on this forum, I received a response suggesting
possible gastroparesis (a delay in the emptying of the stomach).
Last week had a GDR (scope down your throat to view inside stomach... was very
sedated and don't remember the procedure... much nicer than GIs).  The GI doc
was amazed that the sandwich I had eaten the night before was still in my stomach.
Although I haven't specifically officially been told "gastroparesis" yet, sounds
like the doc at this forum sure had it pegged.  It's often associated with diabetes,
which I do not have, but I found a couple of very informative web sites including:
www.cyberstreet.com/swfrmc/GI-GPARE.HTM   and  www.gicare.com/pated/edtgs08.htm
There are some drugs and changes in diet and eating habits that might help.  I'd
recommend checking into the possibility of gastroparesis with a good doctor
(I too have battled the stomach problem for a number of years.  Nice to finally
have a clue as to what's going on.)  Good Luck!!!!
