I am a 27 year old female, who had a cesarean birth 7 months ago. For the past three days, I have had back pain, almost like a persistent ache, that travels, but mostly in the middle to upper middle of my back. Since, my line of works puts me in touch with companies in the field of cancer- my first reaction is that the pain is a result of pancreatic cancer -- how long should I wait to go to the doctor? What other signs should I look for?
I am going to my gynecologist in two weeks - should I hold out till then, or should I go to a general practitioner sooner?

Dear Fleming,
I understand your concerns regarding this new pain.  Given your age, however, it is unlikely that you have pancreatic cancer.  If you are very anxious you should see your doctor sooner to obtain piece of mond, but I think that you can wait the 2 weeks if you do not have jaundice, fever, vomiting blood, manifestations of biliary disease, pancreatitis and ulcer disease which can alos produce the pain that you describe.
