Maudie

Dear Maudie
I was diagnosed as having Candida in the bowel approximately three years
ago.  I have been to see many people about this and came across very
mixed views which made things very confusing for me.  Prior to the
diagnosis I did not have a very healthy diet and particularly had a
problem with binging on sugary foods.  I found that only thing that
really has helped has been to go on a very strict diet. This involved
cutting out all yeast (wine, beer, cheese, bread, mushrooms, etc.) and all
sugar (not including fruit).  Also it is advisable to cut out dairy
products and wheat to begin with and to gradually bring them back in to
your diet to see if they have any effect on your symptoms. Also
it is best to avoid any artificial preservatives etc and to try to eat
fresh food all the time, particularly vegetables.   This diet is really
very difficult to stick to but is worth doing for about three months
if possible and then I find when it is too difficult to keep going on it,
the most important thing is to stay away from yeast, to take a good vitamin
supplement, to take acidopholus (the live bacteria) and a small amount of
aloe vera juice every morning before breakfast.  All these can be bought
in any good health shop.  You will probably come to realise what foods
suit you and what foods cause you a problem if you try to monitor your diet.
Also I would advise trying to do some form of exercise to build up your
stamina and drink plenty of water every day.
I really hope this is helpful.  It is quite a difficult thing to deal with
at first and can be very frustrating when different people tell you
different things. If you are interested in talking further to me about this
please post your e-mail address to the forum and I will reply.  I have read
quite a lot about Candida Albicans and could explain alot more to you if
you are interested.
Take care.
Christine.
