I have had colitis for 2 years now. I am currently 21 years old. Along with the colitis I have experienced high liver emzymes from time to time. I recently had a liver biopsy. My liver showed no signs of inflamation (inflammation), or disease. I do drink about once a week. On average I consume 6 drinks. My gastro doctor tells me that there is an outside chance that I have PSC (primary scharlering coliangitis) because my alk phos are usually elevated. Lately my levels have only been slightly high. Would the enzyme levels fluctuate with PSC or would they remain high?
I was diagnosed in June with PSC. I am a 27 year old female and I too have colitis.
That was dianosed in May. The PSC was first noticed by some intense itching.
(I had bruises from scratching my legs so hard) I have had a liver biopsy also,
and that gave me a definite diagnosis. In addition, I had an ERCP done a week
after the biopsy to see if any bile ducts had blockage. My liver enzymes had
never been high before (or that any blood work showed), and after being on
Actigall since my diagnosis, the levels are into normal ranges. I don't know
what made my enzymes go so high. Oh, and I was a social drinker, only 4-6
drinks per month on the average. Now, I don't drink but 1 or 2 a month at the
most. Good luck.
