Can spasms of the esophagus cause a very sudden drop in heart rate?  I recently was hospitalized for a sudden bradycardia episode where my bpm got down to 38.  Many tests of the heart came back normal and the hypothesis is now that the problem is with my esophagus and stomach.  I am currently being treated for IBS with Bentyl and Serzone.  I am scheduled for an upper G.I. next week.
Thank you for your time and information!!!!

Dear TLH
If you read through our archives you will find many postings that describe cardiac arrythmias associated with esophageal reflux.  Most often described are irregular or fast heart rates.  If you are having a lot of pain, then your heart rate may slow.  It is necessary to exclude cardiac disease before attributing heart irregularities or chest pains to an esophageal cause.
This information is presented for educational purposes.  Ask specific questions to your personal physician.
