I've never been able to burp. After eating or drinking, I feel a build up of pressure in my esophagus and air seems to gurgle between my stomach and throat, but it is never released. This becomes very painful regardless of efforts to avoid gassy foods and beverages. Is there a condition that coresponds to these symptoms? Is there any way to change my situation?

Mike,
Gas in the stomach is usu caused by swallowing of air while eating.  I would suggest chewing your food really well, avoid carbonated beverages and if it still is a problem, take some kind of OTC "GAS X" when you eat.  It should break up the gas bubbles quite well.
