Hi:
This is my second letter to you.  In my last letter you suggested that I have a gastric emptying study done.  I did have it and it was normal.  I'll just refresh you on my problem.  I have terrible nausea that comes and goes (missed five months of work).  I now have some heartburn (not too much and not very often which I didn't have before).  I do have pain in my chest that goes to my  left side.  I also seem to have some gurgling or bubbles in my throat from time to time.  The worst to deal with is the nausea.  I don't know if my diet matters much. One gastro doctor told me it was reflux (without any tests, except the surgeons endoscopy results which showed mild cronic (chronic) gastritis).  The Pantoloc he precribed had bad side effects so I couldn't take it.  (depression and anxiety)   Tried several times.  The second gastro doctor told me it wasn't reflux but probably something neurological.  He wasn't much help either.  I went to a walk in clinic September 21rst and the doctor there gave me Axid and Cisapride.  The nausea is much better (80%) but I still have pain in my chest and a bit of indigestion.   The nausea lasts for 1/2 hour then disappears on and off.   Again for ten days I was symptom free.
June 1997  endoscopy -  diagnosed with H. pylori and some lesions
put on triple medication for six day.  Felt better for two months then back to being sick.
Nov. 1997  - put back on triple medication for 7 days  but it didn't do a thing.
December  - had another endoscopy by a surgeon - told me I didn't have H. pylori anymore but I had mild cronic (chronic) gastritis
June 1998 - blood test a bit high for H. pylor.  Put on triple medication again but was told to stop three days later as they decided that my blood test will always be high as I had the H. pylor before.
How can I get the right diagnosis? Are my endoscopies outdated ?  Things do change.  Should I be having another one to see why I'm not getting better?   Do you think I have reflux?
If I have gastritis does this mean I still have the H. pylori possibly? How do you cure gastritis?  How long would it take for the Axid and Cisapride to make me feel better?  Am I expecting too much from being on it for 18 days?    Are there any other better drugs than Axid and Cisapride that  don't work the same way as Pantoloc or Raninidine (without causing anxiety and depression)?   It's been 15 months of this nausea for me.  I was completely healthy before.  I'm not getting any answers from the G.P.'s or gastro doctors here at all.  Thank you very much for any answers you can give me.  Much appreciated.
Eva

    Eva,
My son is 11yrs. old. He has reflux disease with his main symptom being
nausea. He has had this over a year. He is currently taking reglan and
prilosec. They are the strongest reflux meds. He still has symptoms though
not as much. His dr. did an endoscope w/ biopsies a ph probe and he will
have a gastric emptying this Friday. I would suggest a 24 hour ph probe.
This is the best test to diagnos reflux. actually my son's probe showed
not much reflux so his dr. is sending him for a brain MRI maybe he thinks
it's neurological. his dr. also mentiomed trying a steroid treatment but
he will tell us more when we see him on the 23rd. It should take a couple
of weeks to get reief from reflux meds. Have you propped the head of your
bed up? that should help. I would deffinitly suggest a ph probe. please
e mail me if you like.Good Luck.
