I'm hoping this problem is close enough to this forum's focus to warrant feedback....  A couple months ago, a pain developed near my rectal area that won't go away.  It's not located in the immediate area where I go to the bathroom but feels as though its probably inside and to the right.  Nothing I do (wiping, for instance) really touches the immediate pain area, and I don't feel anything unusual or protruding in the external area.  The pain is a dull, not severe or sharp, more annoying than anything.  Sometimes I can hardly feel it, other times it's more obvious.  The feeling becomes somwhat more evident when I'm bending over to pick something up or using muscles that utilize my rear area.  I have not seen any sign of blood in my urine or when I wipe myself.
I've considered that this could be an internal hemorrhoid.  But, I also worry that even though I haven't seen any major symptons that it could be a sign of something more serious (cancer?).  Any ideas on this or directions you can point me?  Thanks.

Dear Rick,
It is impossible to diagnose the cause of your pain without an examination of the area.  You do not provide your age, but in general, young people do not have to worry about serious conditions such as colon cancer.  T he absence of visible blood is reassuring but it will also be necssary to exclude micrscopic blood.  If you have not had any chnage in stool, size, shaaaaaaaaaape or consistency, I would be reassured.  AS mentioned, a digital rectal examination, prostate evaluation and possibly sigmoidoscopy will be needed to definitively exclude diseases that could cause rectal pain.
